Large crowds are gathering at the Independence Square in Colombo to pay their last respects to the remains of the late Maestro.
Artistes, scholars and politicians are among the crowds.
The body was escorted in a procession from a private funeral parlour in Borella yesterday while President Maithripala Sirisena and several politicians joined artistes to offer floral tributes to the body of the late musician.
The President himself also taking part to carry the casket of Late Pandit Amaradeva was a speciality.
The remains of Pandit Amaradeva will lie in state at the Independence Square until 3pm.
Home Affairs Minster Vajira Abeywardana said that the funeral rites will start thereafter.
Meanwhile, DIG in charge of Colombo Division Lalith Pathinayake said that a special traffic plan will be implemented around Independence Square.
At the same time, the government has declared one week of national mourning and all wine stores, meat shops, fish stalls and cinema halls in Colombo city will be kept closed today to mark the funeral of Late Pandit Amaradeva.
