The government has agreed to pay pensions to disabled war heroes who served for less than 12 years.

Accordingly, the fast unto death agitation launched by disabled war heroes ended today.

The fast disabled war heroes accompanied by representatives of civil groups and Bhikkhu organizations gathered in front of the Defence Ministry this morning.

Meanwhile, an injunction sought by Fort Police to prevent a protest by disabled war heroes and several other organizations in front of Defence Ministry was rejected by Fort Magistrate Lanka Jayarathna.

The magistrate stated that police have sufficient power to prevent if the protestors attempt to create any public inconveniences.

However, disabled war heroes’ organization’s chairman and 5 others were led to a discussion with the Defence Secretary.

Meanwhile, a group of protestors who were in Galle Face behaving in an unruly manner attempted to walk towards the Presidential Secretariat.

At that juncture, police fired water cannon and tear gas to stop protestors entering the secretariat premises.
