After one of the most bitterly fought campaigns in US election history, Republican Donald Trump defeated Democrat Hillary Clinton to become the 45th President of the United States.
Trump captured key swing states, including Florida, North Carolina and Ohio to take his Electoral College vote tally past 270.
In his victory speech in New York, Trump pledged to heal the nation after the divisive campaign.
The President-elect also praised his defeated rival Hillary Clinton for her years of public service.
The provocative billionaire president-elect, said Clinton telephoned him to concede the race shortly after the state of Pennsylvania, which has voted Democratic in presidential races since 1992, was slotted into his win column.
