The strike that was scheduled to be launched by several transport unions from midnight, in protest of raising the minimum traffic law violation fine to Rs. 2500 has been temporarily called off.

Lanka Private Bus Owners’ Union chairman Gemunu Wijeratne said that it was decided to abandon the strike as a result of a successful discussion with the finance minister last afternoon.

Expressing his views to media after the discussion Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake said that action would be taken to provide a solution after consultation with the cabinet today.
