The parliament was informed today that 38 out of 60 members of Aava gang have been arrested to date.
The gang members have been engaging in violent incidents in the North during the past few weeks.
Answering a question presented by JVP MP Anura Kumara Dissanayake under Standing Orders, minister of Law and Order Sagala Rathnayake said that Kumareshwaran Vinodan alias Aava, who is considered to be the leader of the group, was also arrested.
Meanwhile, it has been determined that the first sword, used by the gang, was made in Brazil and was been brought to Sri Lanka from Tamil Nadu.
Replicas of the sword have since been manufactured by a Jaffna blacksmith.
Meanwhile, State Defence Minister Ruwan Wijewardene said that the army has no connection whatsoever to Aava gang but there is an ex-solider among the arrested suspects.
