The token strike launched by the eight paramedic trade unions, at 8.00 a.m. yesterday is continuing today.

They are protesting against several issues including the absorption of the druggist cadre into the paramedical service.

The strike is not being implemented at seven hospitals including the Central Blood Bank, Maharagama Apeksha Hospital and Lady Ridgeway Children’s Hospital.

Hospital spokespersons said that the strike would not affect heart surgeries in hospitals, eye testing activities, nerve and dental examinations and dental industrial activities.

Paramedic Services Joint Front Media spokesman Najith Sumanasena said that the strike would continue till 8 a.m. tomorrow.
