A mother of three has been admitted to Dik Oya hospital in serious condition after having an expired antibiotic injected into her system.

The expired drug had been sold by a private pharmacy in the town.

An apothecary doctor in the area administered the drug to the 34-year-old mother of Bandara Pura at a private medical clinic in Hatton.

A relative of the victim stated that the doctor has prescribed a drug and asked that the drug be purchased from a private pharmacy.

The injection was administered to the patient by the doctor and she fell seriously sick the following morning.

After the doctors of Dik Oya hospital informed the patient’s relatives that the patient had been injected with a drug that had expired, the relatives had caused a commotion at the private pharmacy.

Later Police intervened and temporarily closed the pharmacy.
