He urged Expressway motorists to refrain from exceeding the speed limit of 60 kilometer per hour.

The southern expressway between Dodangoda and Galanigama, and Kahatuduwa and Kottawa were blanketed with heavy fog early this morning.

Director S. Opanayake also asked motorists have headlights turned on while driving through foggy conditions.

The met department states that an atmospheric disturbance has formed in the Bay of Bengal southeast of Sri Lanka.

Under its influence, prevailing showery conditions are likely to enhance during next few days particularly in the Southern, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Western, Eastern and Uva provinces.

Showers or thundershowers will occur periodically in Northern, Eastern, Southern and Uva provinces.
