The protest organized by the residents who were affected by the explosion in the Saalawa army camp has been temporarily suspended.

The protest was suspended after a written pledge given by President’s Public Relations Additional Secretary Sunanda Kariyapperuma to settle the matter within two weeks.

Police temporarily closed the entry roads as protestors attempted to march to the Presidential Secretariat.

Later, 15 protestors were allowed to enter the Presidential Secretariat and the written pledge was handed over to them.

300 houses belonging to 10 grama seva divisions around Saalawa army camp were destroyed by the explosion that occurred on June 5th this year.

The affected residents staged protest on several occasions demanding compensation for the damage.
