President Maithripala Sirisena stressed the need to introduce a national policy with immediate effect to ensure the welfare and security of children.
Speaking at a special discussion held at the President's office yesterday on the national program "Let's Protect the Children", the President said it is the duty of adults to create a world where children are safe and secure.
The President highlighted that the government has paid serious attention to protecting children.
A special presidential task force has been set up in this regard.
Discussions were also held on issues like eliminating child abuse, nutrition and general welfare.
The president emphasized that the judicial cases involving children should be expedited and cause minimum harm to the children's mental wellbeing.
Meanwhile, the student who was accused of hacking into the President's official website, met President Sirisena yesterday at the Presidential Secretariat.
The President offered the student, who has been placed in probation under the purview of his parents, a special gift and wished him success with future studies.
