Reports published in newspapers and websites stating that attempts are made to take imprisoned former parliamentarian Duminda Silva overseas are untrue and vilifying, his sister says.
She points out that Duminda Silva is a critical patient who was shot in the head and in dire need of continuous medical treatment.
She says he was only taken to Sri Jayewardenepura General Hospital by prison officials when his medical condition became serious recently. He was taken to the hospital because neurosurgeon Dr. Maheshi Wijeratne, who treated Duminda Silva after he was shot twice in the head, was consulting there and also as prison officials decided that only she should investigate into his condition.
Thus, his sister further pointed out there is no attempt to take imprisoned Duminda Silva overseas and that reports published in newspapers and websites stating so are malicious and politically motivated.
However, sources say that when the former MP was taken to the Sri Jayewardenepura General Hospital by prison officials he was not tested nor treated and was turned away.
In a website Chairman of Sri Jayewardenepura General Hospital Doctor Athula Kahandaliyanage was quoted saying that the former MP was turned away because hospital staff and doctors refused to accept him.
