The second reading of Budget 2017, was passed with 107 majority votes in parliament a short while ago.

162 voted for the budget and 55 voted against.

EPDP leader Douglas Devananda and Ceylon Workers congress General Secretary Arumugam Thondaman voted for the budget while former president Mahinda Rajapaksa was absent in the house chambers at the time of the vote taking.

Meanwhile, the Tamil National Alliance voted for the budget while the JVP and the Joint Opposition voted against.
