There is no intention, discussion or necessity to take former parliamentarian Duminda Silva overseas for medical treatment, his father Lal Silva says.
He pointed out that reports published on certain media outlets stating that attempts are made to take him overseas are fabricated and issued with malicious intentions.
He further said it is seen that reports published in newspapers and websites stating that there is an attempt to take former MP Duminda Silva from prison for overseas treatment are politically motivated.
He said that former MP Duminda Silva is a patient with two serious gunshot wounds in his head; therefore he constantly needs treatment for his injuries.
Accordingly, former MP Duminda Silva was taken to Sri Jayewardenepura General Hospital by prison authorities recently due to health complications. He was taken to the hospital because neurosurgeon Dr. Maheshi Wijeratne, who treated him after he was shot in the head, was consulting there and also as prison officials decided that only she should investigate into his condition.
However, it is reported that former MP Duminda Silva had been sent back to prison by hospital authorities without attending to him nor treating him when he was taken to the Sri Jayewardenepura hospital by prison officials.
A hospital spokesman was quoted on a website stating that former MP Duminda Silva was turned away by the hospital staff after they refused to treat prisoners.
Former MP Duminda Silva’s father added that the fabricated stories published in newspapers and websites stating that attempts are being made to take him to Singapore are causing inconvenience to his family and him.
He pointed out that it should be clearly stated that there was a certain group that attempted to gain benefit by publicizing such fabricated stories when the case was taken up in courts previously.
He stressed that there is no intention, discussion or necessity to take former MP Duminda Silva overseas for medical treatment as it is also against prison laws to take him to a private hospital for treatment. He said he is fearing for former MP’s life in these circumstances.
