International Drug smuggling ring busted in Mount Lavinia; Drugs worth 20 million Rupees seized
4 foreign nationals who were engaged in a large scale heroine drug racket has been arrested along with drugs worth 20 million Rupees in possession.
The Police narcotics bureau noted that the suspects were arrested last night in Mount Lavinia.
3 Maldivians and 1 Pakistani national were accordingly arrested in the raid.
10 Maldivian nationals were arrested in the past 5 months in connection to large scale drug smuggling during raids conducted in several areas.
When these suspects were questioned, it was revealed that heroine is imported and packaged in the country, which is smuggled back to the Maldives.
They had also revealed that the racket is carried out centred around Pakistan.
The Maldivian nationals added that this drug racket has been led by a Pakistani national residing in the island.
Accordingly, the Police narcotics bureau deployed 6 teams in order to commence operations to arrest the Pakistani smuggler and accomplices.
Meanwhile, the Narcotics bureau has revealed information about a group of Maldivian nationals connected to this drug racket.
