Discussion between transport unions and Finance Minister regarding the 2500-rupee fine today

Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake will be meeting with several representatives of unions from the transport sector today to discuss the proposal made in the 2017 budget, to increase the minimum traffic law violation fine to Rs. 2500. 

Lanka Private Bus Owners’ Union chairman Gemunu Wijeratne said that Bus, School Transport and Three-wheeler Unions will participate in this discussion that is to be held at the ministry of finance this afternoon. 

However the All Lanka Private Bus employees’ Union says that an island-wide strike will be carried out from midnight against the proposal to increase the fine to Rs. 2500.
