The Joint Opposition has requested the president to use executive powers and remove all budget proposals that are harmful to the independence of the Central Bank.

It says that a letter of request with regard to this matter has already been handed over to the president.

Addressing a media conference held in Colombo today, MP Bandula Gunawardana said all MPs who represent the Joint Opposition signed this letter.  

He also said that one million Indians will receive jobs in the island under ETCA.  

MP Gunawardana further said that former Central Bank governor Arjuna Mahendran is still in charge of the project to generate one million jobs.
