200 kilo grams of Cocaine worth 2 billion rupees found in a container of sugar

The Police Narcotic Bureau states that investigations are continuing to check whether there is more cocaine concealed in the other 40 containers being kept in charge of Customs.
 
A spokesman said that a cache of 200 kilograms of cocaine with a face value of 2 billion rupees was found inside a stationary container at the Orugodawatta container yard today.

Police Narcotic Bureau stated that this cache of cocaine has been smuggled to the island from Brazil under the guise of importing sugar.

Over 50 containers suspected to be concealed with cocaine have been taken into custody by the Sri Lanka Customs.  

Acting on a tip-off, they were seized by the Customs on a Court order.

Authorities found cocaine in containers of sugar on three previous occasions while they were being smuggled to the island from Brazil.

The latest such incident was reported from Pethiyagoda, Kelaniya on November 9th where police seized 31 kilograms of cocaine with a face value of 450 million rupees.
