Wildlife Minister Gamini Jayawickrema Perera says that there is a problem with regard to looking after the tamed elephants, kept on court order in the custody of his Ministry. 

Participating at a media briefing held in Colombo yesterday the Minister said that similarly in the future stern legislation would be brought in for the prevention of deploying elephants for heavy labour.

Cabinet approval has also been given for this. 

The minister said that 41 new conditions, to be used as guidelines for the care of elephants have been proposed, the daily requirement of fresh fruits and vegetables have also been included in these conditions.
