President appoints a special committee to work for eradication of poverty in the country

President Maithripala Sirisena has taken measures to appoint a special committee to work for eradication of poverty in the country.

Minister Sarath Amunugama will chair this committee.

7 members including Ministers Ravi Karunanayake and Kabeer Hashim have also been appointed as members of the committee.

The Government has named the year 2017 as the poverty eradication year and a meeting was held at the parliament complex to discuss the preludes of the program. 

President’s Media Unit stated that Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, Provincial governors, chief ministers, ministry secretaries and several public officials participated in this meeting held under the patronage of the President.

President Sirisena stated during the meeting that every ministry should implement a project with regard to this with effect from the first week of January.
