Hospital activities disrupted due to GMOA strike

Daily activities of government hospitals around the country have been disrupted due to the token strike launched by GMOA and Medical Services United Front this morning.

GMOA started the strike from 8am today stating the state service and free health service are influenced by Budget proposals.

The strike will continue until 8.00 am tomorrow.

GMOA media spokesman Dr. Samantha Ananda stated that the strike will not be held at Lady Ridgeway Children’s hospital, De Soyza women’s hospital, Maharagama Cancer hospital and Kidney Treatment units.

Our correspondents stated that many patients who sought treatment at government hospitals throughout the country were inconvenienced due to the strike.

They stated that emergency activities were carried out however.

Meanwhile, eight supplementary medical workers including Public Health Inspectors have joined the strike.
