Update : Discussions with the President successful; Bus Strike called off

Private Bus Companies have said that the strike against the increased fines on traffic law violations will be called off following a successful discussion with President Maithripala Sirisena.

Secretary of the Private Bus Companies Federation Anjana Priyanjith said that the President stated that a final decision had not been reached on increasing fines.

The President’s Media Unit also said that a Committee will be appointed as per instructions from the President to address the issues in the public transportation sector.

The strike launched by Private Bus Employees against the 25,000 Rupee fine on certain traffic violations, has been called off.

Secretary of the All Island Private Bus Companies Federation Anjana Priyanjith stated that the decision was taken following a discussion with Western Province Chief Minister Isura Devapriya last night.

He further stated that the strike was called off after opportunity was given for 20 representatives to have a discussion with the President.
