The initial report in connection with the deaths of 4 heart patients as a result of Heart Surgeries performed at the Colombo National Hospital has been handed over to the Health Services Director General Doctor Palitha Maheepala.

A 3 member committee was appointed by the Health Minister after 4 out of the 6 patients on whom heart surgeries were performed on the 28th of last month passed away.

The report had pointed out that an allergic reaction caused by a type of dye used during the surgeries may have caused the deaths.

It has been recommended that the type of dye, imported from Ireland to be sent for further testing overseas if required.

Statements have also been obtained from the Doctors and Nurses who performed the surgeries.
