The Private Bus strike which was launched against the increased fines on traffic law violations was called off today following a successful discussion with President Maithripala Sirisena.

Secretary of the Private Bus Companies Federation Anjana Priyanjith said that the President stated that a final decision had not been reached on increasing fines.

If the fines are to be enacted it will be done after obtaining the views of bus companies.

The President’s Media Unit said that a Committee will be appointed as per instructions from the President to address the issues in the public transportation sector.

The Committee comprises the Secretaries of the Ministries of Finance and Transport, Senior DIG of Traffic, Attorney General and the Commissioner of Motor Traffic.

The Committee will not only look in to the increased fines but to all the issues prevalent in the bus industry.
