President assures to safeguard equal rights and privileges of disabled persons

President Maithripala Sirisena said a National Education Policy will be prepared for the disabled children.

Addressing the International Day Ceremony of Disabled persons held at the National Educational College in Polonnaruwa yesterday, the President said necessary institutional and statutory backgrounds will also be prepared to avoid the existing shortage when implementing the International Charters.

The ceremony has been organized by the Ministry of Social Empowerment and Welfare and National Council for Disabled Persons to mark the United Nations' International Day of Persons with Disabilities.

The President said that the disabled person should not live under the non-disabled person.

All disabled persons should be able to live in the society with the equal rights and privileges.

He said it is the responsibility of the government to make necessary background to enhance the skills of the disabled persons and will take every measure to fulfill their humanitarian needs.
