Minister of Health Rajitha Senaratne says that he proposes a fine of 25000 against individuals advocating places for mosquito breeding.

The minister noted that in order to control Dengue, the respective laws and acts should be amended.

The minister noted that if an individual succumbs to death due to dengue fever in a particular area, breeders of dengue larva and institutions responsible for maintaining locations conducive for dengue should be held accountable and should pay compensation accordingly.

Currently a fine between 500- 2000 rupees is imposed for the offense of promoting environments conducive for dengue breeding.

Community Specialist of the Dengue Eradication Unit of the Ministry of Health, Dr. Priscilla Samaraweera, noted that 76 patients died due to dengue and 47,000 patients were reported during the year.

She added that a dengue prevention programme will be implemented from the 7th to the 9th of December.
