President Maithripala Sirisena requested specialist doctors and nurses not to migrate in order to preserve the standards of the local health service.

He was speaking during the committee stage budget debate on Sports, Health and Nutrition ministries in parliament today.

President Sirisena also invited Sri Lankan expatriate specialist doctors to return to the country.

Heated arguments were exchanged among house members today in connection with the tear gas attack on former local government members of the Joint Opposition near the entrance of the parliament last Saturday.

Joint Opposition leader Dinesh Gunawardana questioned the speaker to declare his stance, over the tear gas attack.

A tense situation erupted as parliamentarians from both the ruling and joint opposition intervened in the argument.

Meanwhile, JVP MP Sunil Handunnetti questioned about UNP MP Ananda Aluthgamage bringing a branch from a teak tree into the house chamber.

In addition, JVP MP Anura Kumara Dissanayake questioned when deputy speaker used parliament privileges to express his views as the Cricket Board chairman during the committee stage debate of the Sports ministry.
