New charge sheets for traffic rule violations in future

Transport Ministry Secretary Nihal Somaweera said that a new charge sheet will be introduced for traffic rule violations in the future.

He said this matter was discussed during the meeting held with regard to the fine of 25 thousand rupees on 7 traffic rule violations.

The meeting between the committee appointed by the President to look into this matter and transport trade unions was held at the Presidential Secretariat today.

The Presidential Committee is chaired by the Transport Ministry Secretary Nihal Somaweera.

Others sitting in the committee are the IGP, members of the Attorney General’s Office and Commissioner of Motor Traffic Jagath Chandrasiri.

Representatives of private bus associations and three wheel drivers associations who engaged in the recent strike also participated in the meeting.

After the conclusion of the meeting, All Ceylon Private Bus Company Federation Chairman Stanley Fernando said it was decided in the meeting to go ahead with the existing charge sheet until the new one is introduced.
