Trade and economic ties with Sri Lanka will be increased, Russia said as it celebrated 60 years of diplomatic relations with the country.

Russia's Ambassador to Sri Lanka Alexander Karchava said Sri Lanka and Russia have set up a joint committee on trade and economy and science and technology. He said the first committee meeting took place in January this year.

Another meeting is scheduled to be held next year when Sri Lanka and Russia sign an agreement on fisheries.

President Maithripala Sirisena will visit Russia next year and hold discussions with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
