His Eminence Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith says that constructing the tallest Christmas Tree at Galle Face is an unnecessary expenditure and contrary to the meaning of Christmas.

He requested people to refrain from indulging in unnecessary spending and instead to focus on their personal lives from a spiritual perspective.

The project of building the world’s tallest Christmas Tree was launched on 18th August under the patronage of Port and Naval Affairs Minister Arjuna Ranatunga.

While France holds the current record of having constructed a Christmas Tree that stood at 225 feet tall, the Christmas tree being built at Galle Face is scheduled to be 325 feet tall.

The construction of the tree is currently half completed.

While participating at a media briefing held at the Colombo Archbishop’s House yesterday, his Eminence Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith expressed his views in the following manner.
