A renowned Pakistani musician, Junaid Jamshed, is among those feared dead in a plane crash in the north of the country.

The Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flight PK-661 came down in the Abbottabad district on Wednesday killing 48.

Jamshed, 52, who was believed to be on board with his family, was a recording artist previously awarded a Medal of Excellence by the President of Pakistan.

Jamshed has been listed by The Muslim 500 as one of the "World's Most Influential Muslims" for his active involvement in charity work, especially with the NGO Muslim Charity since 2003.

However, in 2014, TV anchor Aamir Liaquat claimed during a talk show that Jamshed had committed an act of blasphemy.

A First Information Report was registered against him, after pressure from several Sunni organizations.

Jamshed responded to the allegations on his official Facebook page, where he apologized for making mistakes and offending people.
