A panel of experts has been appointed to investigate into illegal fishing practices under the directives of Minister of Fisheries, Mahinda Amaraweera.

The three member committee, presided by Professor Sunil Jayakody, is expected to produce a report to the subject minister within three months.

Previously, several protests against the use of illegal fishing nets were reported from Negombo area.
