Protests continue against Navy Commander for assaulting Hiru journalist

A number of media organizations organized news discussions and staged protests and against the assault of the Hiru journalist by the Navy Commander, Vice Admiral Ravindra C. Wijegunaratne at the Hambanthota port premises.

A tense situation erupted with the involvement of the navy during the Hambanthota – Magampura port employees Sathyagraha on the 10th of December.

The hiru journalist who was reporting the incident was reprimanded using obscene language and was assaulted at this instance by the Navy commander Vice Admiral Ravindra C. Wijegunaratne .

The Western province professional journalists association and the Gampaha district Journalists foundation engaged in a protest condemning the assault on the hiru journalist in Ja Ela today.

Meanwhile, the members of the Trincomalee district journalists association engaged in news reporting today wearing black bands.
