Several strikers are currently at the Ministry of Port and Shipping in Colombo to meet with subject Minister Arjuna Ranatunga.

In related news, a tense situation erupted on December 10 between the strikers and the Sri Lanka Navy, as navy personnel intervened to disperse the Sathyagraha.

Navy Commander Vice Admiral Ravindra C Wijegunarathna had used foul language and assaulted a journalist from Hiru during the intervention.

Later the Defense Secretary called for a report to be submitted from the Navy Commander.

The report is scheduled to be handed over today.

At the same time, the Foreign Journalists Association stated that an immediate inquiry should be held with regard to the assault on the Journalist from Hiru.

The Foreign Journalists Association, in its communiqué, has extended its regret over the incident.
