Chinese company to begin work in Hambantota port next January

Port and Shipping Minister Arjuna Ranatunga said that work of the Maagampura Port in Hambantota will start in collaboration with the Chinese company early next month.

Addressing a media briefing held in Colombo today, the minister said that it is expected to sign the relevant agreement on January 6th or 7th.

Meanwhile, minister Ranatunga said if Maagampura port workers currently on strike do not report for duty before 2pm tomorrow, new workers will be recruited from the area to continue port operations.
