The Maagampura port workers’ strike which continued for 9 days was called off this afternoon.

Maagampura port workers committee chairman I.K. Omesh told the media that the strike was called off following discussions with subject minister Arjuna Ranatunga and the fellow strikers.

Subject minister Arjuna Ranatunga announced yesterday that those who do not report for duty before 2pm today would be considered as vacated their employment.

Meanwhile, Hambantota Magistrate Manjula Karunarathna ordered the strikers yesterday to not damage public property and prevent disrupting port operations.

However, Maagampura workers committee secretary Gayan Sandaruwan said the strikers ended the agitation on the assurance given by minister Ranatunga.
