President Maithripala Sirisena, who is on a state visit to Malaysia, highlighting the investment potential of the island invited the business community of Malaysia to invest in Sri Lanka.

Participating in the Sri Lanka-Malaysia Business Forum organized by the two countries, the President and his delegation met with the business community of Malaysia in Kuala Lumpur last afternoon and discussed identifying new approaches to expand investment and trade opportunities with the Malaysian business community.

The President stated that Sri Lanka offers a wide range of investment opportunities as the government has declared that the focus over the next three years will be on development.

The business forum was organized with the aim of strengthening the cooperative relationship between Sri Lanka and Asian markets.

Speaking at the forum, the Malaysian Minister of International Trade and Industry Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed said the Malaysian and Sri Lankan business communities should strengthen cooperation and invest in each other's country to enhance the bilateral trade and investment.

He said Malaysia has a strong presence in Sri Lanka, mainly, in the services, tourism and manufacturing sectors and that the Malaysian government was committed to encourage a conducive trade environment with Sri Lanka and deepen economic engagement.
