Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak officially welcomed President Maithripala Sirisena, who arrived in Malaysia on Thursday, for a three-day visit, at Perdana Putra in Putrajaya today.

Prime Minister Najib Razak greeted President Sirisena on arrival at 10 am on Friday and the national anthems of both countries were played respectively.

The Sri Lankan President then inspected a guard-of-honor mounted by 103 officers and men from the 1st Battalion Royal Malay Regiment.

President Sirisena, was then introduced to the cabinet ministers, senior government officials and foreign diplomats and both leaders held discussions to identify potential areas for future collaboration.

Five memoranda of understanding are to be signed between the two countries, covering the areas of tourism, youth development, culture, arts and heritage, foreign workers, as well as scientific and technical cooperation.

President Sirisena’s visit is expected to provide a new impulse to the bilateral cooperation that would strengthen and elevate relations between Malaysia and Sri Lanka.
