The National Freedom Front in a communiqué noted that the allegations made against its leader, Parliamentarian Wimal Weerawansa by the FCID that he is not extending his cooperation for police investigations on purpose, are baseless.

The FCID has filed a case at the Colombo Fort Magistrate court against leaders of the National Freedom Front and five others on misuse of vehicles.

The National Freedom Front stated that MP Weerawansa was questioned for almost 30 hours on 4 days on the matter.

Furthermore, around 50 individuals including the general secretary of the party have been questioned at several instances on the matter.

The party in its communiqué has noted that the MP, despite being busy last month during the budget debate, appeared before the FCID on IL poya day to record a statement, extending his cooperation for the investigations.

The party furthermore states that the FCID was informed through the MP’s lawyers whenever he had to reschedule a date he was to appear before the FCID, due to unavoidable circumstances.

It is also stated in the communiqué that the last time the MP was summoned to the FCID, he was in China on an official visit and that the FCID was informed of this.

The National Freedom Front states that under such circumstances, the FCID has informed courts yesterday that MP Weeerawansa is not extending his cooperation for the investigations.
