6 individuals arrested for deforestation of a wildlife sanctuary

6 individuals engaged in deforestation of Kahalla – Pallekale wildlife sanctuary bordering Anuradhapura and Matale districts, were arrested today.

The individuals were arrested on a tip off received by the Galkiriyagama Wildlife Conservation Office and it is reported that a land extent of over 50 acres have been deforested with the use of backhoe machines.

The arrested individuals are residents from Galkiriyagama area.
