The bodies of the 11 victims of the accident that took place last afternoon near Sangaththanei railway station in Chawakachcheri along the Kandy – Jaffna – A9 main road were airlifted to Colombo today.

A spokesman at Jaffna Hospital stated that the bodies were airlifted to Rathmalana Air Force base.

The victims included 5 women and 6 men who were residents of Millaniya – Horana.

The accident took place yesterday around 1 PM when a SLTB bus plying from Jaffna to Vavuniya collided head on with a van.

The SLTB bus driver has brought the bus to a complete stop after seeing the van approaching at high speed.

Investigations have revealed that the van has then collided with the stationary bus.

21 others who also sustained injuries in the accident were admitted to the hospital.

Meanwhile, 3 individuals were killed in a motorbike accident that took place last night near the 10th kilo meter post along the Athurugiriya – Malambe main road.

Police stated that a motorbike travelling from Arangala towards Malambe has collided with another motorbike travelling in the opposite direction.
