Poaching of Indian fishermen in Sri Lankan waters has decreased by 50 per cent, Minister of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Development Mahinda Amaraweera says.

He said the main reason for the decrease is the arrests made by Sri Lanka Navy and coast guards.

Fishing boats that were taken under Sri Lankan custody this way were released till 2015. However, the minister said, under his leadership the boats were confiscated even though the fishermen were released.
