Sri Lanka Navy assisted the Sri Lanka Coast Guard to arrest twelve Indian fishermen for allegedly crossing the International Maritime Boundary Line and fishing in Sri Lankan waters.

The Navy personnel arrested the 12 in waters South of Talaimannar this morning.

Two Indian fishing trawlers were also taken into custody.

The arrested fishermen and the trawlers have been brought to Mannar and handed over to the Department of Fisheries.

Today's arrest comes just a day after the Navy arrested seven Indian fishermen along with two Indian fishing trawlers for fishing in waters northwest of Delft Island.

Following yesterday's arrest, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam in a letter, urged the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to personally intervene to get the fishermen and their boats released from Sri Lankan custody.
