Almost a white Christmas in Sahara: Snow falls after 37 years to the desert [photos]

In a rare turn of events snow has fallen in Sahara desert. According to reports this is the second time such an occurrence has taken place.

The event was captured by amateur photographer Karim Bouchetata. He was able to capture incredible pictures of snow covering the sand in the small Saharan desert town of Ain Sefra, Algeria.

He said that the snow remained for about a day before melting.

Snow was last seen in Ain Sefra on February 18, 1979 but lasted for only half an hour.
