The Sri Lanka Air Force in Collaboration with the Sri Lanka Navy has commenced an investigation on the cylindrical metal part which washed ashore in the Kaludavali beach at Kalavanchikudi in Batticaloa.

Defence Secretary Karunasena Hetti Aarachchi said that the descriptive letters found on the debris are not English so investigators are attempting to verify them.

Fishermen in the area stated that the 10 feet long metal piece believed to be aircraft debris had been floating in the sea for the past several days.

The debris was washed ashore on the Kaludavali beach this morning and, subsequently, it was transported to Naval Headquarters in Trincomalee.

Meanwhile, Defence Secretary Karunasena Hetti Aarachchi expressed his views about the metal component found from Kaludavali beach, during a media conference held in Colombo today.
