Police Media Division did not take steps to email incidents that occurred at police divisions to private media institutions during the last several days.

Media reports published that the reasons behind this decision was that the IGP had instructed not to provide news to private media institutions.

Several politicians as well as the IGP expressed their views with regard to this during media conference in Colombo today.

When our news team contacted IGP Pujitha Jayasundera with regard to the matter, he said that he has not issued an instruction to the police media division about providing news to the private media.

He also said that he does not have such a power to issue an order of this manner.

Later Police Media Division issued a communiqué stating that the IGP has not imposed any restriction in releasing information to private media institutions.
