The Ceylon Electricity Board has informed the Public Utilities Commission that supplying power will face problems due to the prevailing dry weather condition.

Director General of Public Utilities Commission Damitha Kumarasinghe stated that recommendations were sent to the Ceylon Electricity board with this regard.

The recommendations include commencing the power plants under the long term power generation plan and adding them to the grid on schedule, expediting the proposed household Solar power programme, allowing private factories and buildings to generate their own power by self power generating methods and obtaining maximum capacity from existing thermal power plants.

However, the 1st plant of Norochcholai has been malfunctioning since 15th of October and consequently, a total 270 Mega Watts have been lost.
In addition, thermal power plants are also not functioning in full capacity due to dearth of fuel supply.

Speaking at a press briefing held recently, Minister of Power and Renewable Energy, Ranjith Siyambalapitiya stated that there will be no power interruptions in the future.
