The resolution on the Development Special Provisions Draft Bill was defeated by North Western Provincial council by 20 majority votes this afternoon.

11 voted for the resolution while 31voted against it.

UPFA members including chief minister Dharmasiri Dassanayake voted against the resolution while UNP members voted for it.

Earlier this morning, the resolution presented to the Central Provincial Council with regard to the Development Special Provisions Draft Bill was defeated by 32 majority votes.

UNP councilors walked away during the vote taking.

Meanwhile, Ruling party Chief Whip of the North Western Provincial Council and MP Jonston Fernando’s son Johan Fernando has been removed from the post.

Our correspondent stated that ruling party councillors decided today to remove Johan Fernando on the charges of failing to perform his responsibilities in the position.

Later, UPFA councilor Bandara Rajapakse was appointed to the post of chief whip of the ruling party.
