6.3-magnitude earthquake hits northeast Japan

A 6.3 magnitude earthquake has struck northeast of Tokyo last evening. No tsunami warnings were issued, Japan's meteorological agency said.

The quake struck at a shallow depth of 10 kilometres (6.2 miles), 18 km north-northeast of the town of Daigo.

No injuries or damages were reported.
