Even though the government has a two-third majority in parliament now, the situation could change considering the current political situation, former president MP Mahinda Rajapaksa said.

During a discussion with Foreign Correspondents yesterday, he said that his intention was to topple the government in 2017.

He explained that there is friction between the UNP and SLFP, and this would affect the country’s future.

The former president, replying to a question by journalists, said that he had no intention to be the president again.

He added that however he can govern the country without becoming its head.

When asked if he would serve as the Prime Minister under current President Maithripala Sirisena he replied saying if the current PM Ranil Wickremesinghe can he can also work with someone he knows since 1970.
