Another 21 remanded for violating Hambantota Court Orders

11 individuals were arrested today as well for engaging in a protest in Hambantota area violating court orders and causing damage to public property.

Accordingly, 63 individuals including the 52 apprehended yesterday have been arrested so far in connection to the incident.

23 out of the 52 arrested were remanded yesterday and another 21 were remanded today when they were produced before courts.

Accordingly, 44 individuals have been produced before courts and ordered to be remanded thus far in connection to the tense situation that erupted yesterday at Mirijjawila – Hambantota.

The tense situation erupted yesterday at the inauguration ceremony of Sri Lanka – China Logistics and Industrial Zone when a group of individuals staged a protest.

Hambantota Magistrate had issued an injunction banning protests and meetings in several areas in Hambantota for 14 days starting from yesterday.

Police commenced investigations last afternoon to apprehend those who behaved in an unruly manner, violating court orders while the opening of the China – Sri Lanka development zone in Hambantota was in progress yesterday.

Accordingly, 52 individuals were arrested in connection to the incident yesterday.

Many politicians expressed their views at several media briefings and ceremonies held today about firing tear gas and water canon at protestors.
